The Hailey Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved the second phase of converting the historic Ellsworth Inn into affordable workforce housing. This project, led by ARCH Community Housing Trust in partnership with the cities of Hailey and Sun Valley, aims to address the region’s housing shortage. The development includes transforming the inn into six one-bedroom apartments and constructing 12 workforce homes on its grounds. A one-bedroom cottage has already been completed and occupied, while the inn units are expected to be ready by April 2025.

The initiative targets residents earning 80-140% of the area median income, prioritizing Blaine County employees. Funding for the project includes significant philanthropic contributions, such as two $1 million matching grants. The conversion preserves the inn’s historical significance while providing much-needed housing for local workers. Future phases will involve additional duplex units pending city council approval.
