Ellsworth Inn Was a Church and a Hunting Lodge Before Becoming Workforce Housing

The historic Ellsworth Inn in Hailey, built in 1915, has been transformed from a former nine-bedroom bed and breakfast into six one-bedroom workforce housing apartments, thanks to a collaborative $2.8 million renovation effort led by the nonprofit ARCH and supported by the cities of Hailey and Sun Valley. After a year of construction, visitors recently toured the updated units—each with a kitchen, bath, and unique layout—complete with solid stone counters, Whirlpool appliances, and some original features like wood floors and fireplaces. The project preserved the building’s storied past, which includes roles as a family home, funeral home, Mormon stake house, and spiritual retreat. A second phase of development is planned, including a duplex and ten single-family homes. A public tour is scheduled for April 29 at the property, located at 702 3rd Ave. S.
