Blaine residents face ‘housing burden’ – Mountain Express

Gretchen Stinnett, a single mother of three, has felt frustrated trying to find affordable, adequate housing in Blaine County.

“It really became an issue when my husband and I got a divorce,” she said. “I lost my house because one income could not support that kind of a house payment.”

That’s when Stinnett learned about the Blaine County Housing Authority.

“They were great,” she said. “They had a house [for rent] that they had just moved to Bellevue and it was within my price range. Their prices are significantly lower. Realistically, when you’re looking nowadays, three-bedroom houses are listed for rent at $1,800 a month.”

Through the Housing Authority, similar-size homes rent for about $1,000 a month.
